Hudson Valley Community College Foundation Board Names New Leadership

Michael C. Danieli
Michael C. Danieli of Troy has been named chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable corporation that philanthropically supports the college's mission. Danieli has been a board member since 2005 and had served as first vice chairman for one year. Danieli will serve a one-year term as chairman.

Currently he is director of client services for the Times Union where his position encompasses new business development and community relations. Danieli joined the company in 1977 as an advertising account executive.

Danieli is an active board member with: Vanderhyeden Hall and Seton Health Foundation.

Four other board members were appointed to leadership positions:

  • Gordon Zuckerman '62 of Niskayuna, president of Murray & Zuckerman, Inc., as first vice chairman. He holds an associate's degree in Chemistry from Hudson Valley; he joined the board in 2004.
  • James A. Walsh '61 of Troy, a retired manager from the former Niagara-Mohawk Power Corp., as second vice chairman; he has served as chairman of the board since 2007, and has been a board member since 1994.
  • John M. Shartrand of Glenville, chief investment officer of Capital Communications Federal Credit Union Financial Services, as treasurer. He has served as treasurer for one year, and joined the board in 2006.
  • Arthur R. Veino Jr. '76 of Watervliet, a manager with Pepsi Bottling Group, as secretary. He also was re-appointed to another three-year term on the board. A graduate of the college's Electrical Engineering Technology program, Veino has served as secretary for two years, and as a board member since 1997.

The board also welcomed four new directors: Kathleen Carney '04 of Troy, president of the college's Alumni Association; Christina Fitzgerald '71 of Saratoga Springs, president of CPF Management Corporation; Tracey Wardwell of Schaghticoke, branch manager/banking officer of M&T Bank; and Robert Welch '80 of Troy, vice president of Rose and Kiernan.

In addition, seven other current directors were reappointed to the Foundation board and also will serve three-year terms:

  • L. Craig Bryce '75 of Troy.
  • Kevin Johnson '74 of Clifton Park.
  • Anne Morgan of Troy.
  • William Muller of Rensselaer.
  • Kelly Phillips '99 of Albany.
  • James Ryan '68 of Troy.
  • A. Lynn-Scott of Albany.

Gifts to the Foundation from alumni, corporations and friends are used to enhance programs, facilities and scholarship opportunities at the college. In the 2006-07 academic year, philanthropic support to the college and Foundation totaled more than $900,000.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
