Averill Park Student Shane Shoemaker Honored by Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Shane Shoemaker of Averill Park, a 2007 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College’s Criminal Justice program, was recently honored by the college.

Shoemaker received the Paul N. Luther Memorial Scholarship, which is annually given to an outstanding graduate of the Criminal Justice program.

An honor student and member of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for students at two-year colleges, Shoemaker plans to transfer to the University at Albany’s School of Criminal Justice. While at Hudson Valley, he worked as a tutor in the Learning Assistance Center.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 associate’s degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and also sponsors an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
