Stephentown Student Lynne Schmich Honored by Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Lynne Schmich of Stephentown, a 2007 graduate of Hudson Valley Community College’s Individual Studies program, was recently named to the All New York State Academic Team.

Schmich, who plans to transfer to Russell Sage College to study psychology, was nominated by faculty and staff for the honor. The All New York State Academic Team is named by Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society for students at two-year colleges, and is based on academic achievement and community service. While at Hudson Valley, Schmich also was recognized for academic research by the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department and the Marvin Library. She served as a peer tutor and was vice president of the college’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 70 associate’s degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Science; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and also sponsors an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 60,000 alumni.
