Registration for summer youth programs sponsored by Hudson Valley Community College will begin Wednesday, March 28.

This year, Hudson Valley is offering a Summer Academy, as well as its popular Summer Educational Enrichment Program, Athletic Camps, Technology Enrichment Program and Summer Youth Theater Workshop.

Last year, more than 900 young people participated in the college\'s summer programs. This year\'s programs begin, Monday, June 25 and run through mid-August.

Complete information about all of the summer programs can be found at, or call the Office of Community and Professional Education at (518) 629-7339.

The college\'s Summer Academy lets elementary, middle and high school students choose from a variety of half-day, week-long courses. Scheduled so children can attend in the morning, afternoon, or both, the courses cover topics such as science, math, technology and history in a fun learning environment. Students also can learn American Sign Language, become a better singer, join a writer's club or discover how newscasts are created. For teen-age students, courses include SAT Preparation, career research and how to write a dynamic college essay.

The expanded lineup of Summer Athletic Camps includes new offerings, girl\'s lacrosse, T-ball and volleyball. Returning will be instructional camps in basketball, dance, golf, football, lacrosse, softball, soccer, tennis, and the popular adventure camp, which utilizes the college's ropes course.

The college will host a week-long Technology Enrichment Program that encourages exploration of science and technology among students in the middle grades. Incoming 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders can discover their interests and talents through hands-on, activities in robotics, special effects and the science of magic. There\'s even a fitness break worked into the program to get participants\' bodies moving.

The Youth Theater Workshop takes campers through the entire process of creating a musical theater piece – from scriptwriting and creating songs to staging and acting in the final production. Students can choose to be on stage, work \"in the wings,\" or both. The program is offered in two two-week sessions, one for those ages 8-11 and a second for those ages 12-16.

The Summer Educational Enrichment Program has been a mainstay of summer youth activities on the Hudson Valley campus for many years. Weekly sessions for students entering first through seventh grades will cover topics as diverse as character education and science. Campers are grouped by age and are accompanied by a counselor throughout the day.
