CONTACT: Jeff Foley (518) 629-8085 or Sarah Boggess (518) 629-8071
FOR RELEASE: Immediate, Thursday, February 1, 2001

Hudson Valley Community College's students will have an opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the college's judicial system on Monday, February 5. Beginning at 2 p.m. in the North Dining Hall (second floor of the campus center), Sandra McCarthy will facilitate a free workshop.

McCarthy, Hudson Valley's campus attorney, will orientate students to the free legal consultations she provides. McCarthy, who also serves as the coordinator for the college's judicial due process system, will provide information and answer questions pertaining to student rights, as well as their responsibilities with regard to the complaint and grievance process.

All Hudson Valley students are welcome to attend, and first-semester students are strongly encouraged to mark this event on their calendars. This session is the second in a series of weekly educational resource workshops that function as a semester-long orientation/introduction to key academic support and student service departments at Hudson Valley.

The resource workshops, a collaborative effort of the Educational Opportunity Program, Student Activities Office and Student Life Committee, strives to compliment other campus efforts to enhance institutional retention rates and improve the chances for students to succeed.

For more information, contact Hudson Valley's director of student life, Louis Coplin, at 629-7348.
