The Gibson Girl Meets the Victorian Lady at Hudson Valley Community College

The public is invited to join WE@HVCC for \"The Gibson Girl Meets the Victorian Lady\" with Barbara Meyer Darlin on Thursday, October 14, 2004 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

Ms. Darlin, back on campus by popular demand, presents "The Gibson Girl Meets the Victorian Lady,\" an hour-long program that compares the lives and fashions of the turn-of-the-century society lady and her counterpart in the working class. She gives an historical look at women\'s undergarments and the torturous practice of tight-lacing corsets. Both the working woman and the society lady are \"exposed!\" Obstacles women encountered upon entering the male-dominated world of office work also are presented. Attendees are invited to wear Victorian dress.

Women's Enterprise, WE@HVCC, is a philanthropic, educational and social organization founded to enhance the campus community and award scholarships to deserving individuals. Proceeds from this event will benefit the WE@HVCC Scholarship Fund.
