Rensselaer Resident Rachel L. Rice Honored with Two Awards From Hudson Valley Community College \"Photo

Rachel L. Rice of Rensselaer, a 2004 honors graduate of the Early Childhood program at Hudson Valley Community College, recently received two awards from the college: the Early Childhood Club Award for Academic Excellence and Leadership and the Hy Rosenblum Award for Special Consideration.

Rice plans to study early childhood education at The College of Saint Rose this fall. During her time at Hudson Valley, Rice made the President's List three times and was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for students at two-year colleges.

She also was chosen to be included in two publications: Who's Who Among Students in America's Junior Colleges, and the National Dean's List. She also was a member of the Student Christian Association.

Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunity Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students, and it is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining. Hudson Valley has nearly 60,000 alumni.
