Dancing Wheels to Perform at Hudson Valley \"Photos

Dancing Wheels, one of the nation's premier modern dance companies that integrate professional stand-up and wheelchair dancers, will perform in Hudson Valley Community College's McDonough Complex fieldhouse on Monday, October 6 at 7 p.m. and Tuesday, October 7 at 10 a.m. Admission is free. For more information, contact Hudson Valley's Disability Resource Center at (518) 629-7154. The performance is part of Abilities Awareness Week at the College.

Following Tuesday's performance, the Disability Resource Center will recognize faculty, alumni, students and members of the community for their outstanding commitment to persons with disabilities at an awards luncheon that begins at noon.

The company also will host a pair of 90-minute workshops on Tuesday, October 7 at 1:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, October 8 at a time to be announced. Admission is free. Space is limited and reservations are required. To reserve a spot at the workshop, call (518) 629-7170.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Dancing Wheels was founded in 1980 to provide opportunities for individuals of all abilities to express themselves through dance. It combines the artistic talents of dancers with and without disabilities, incorporating many performers who dance in wheelchairs.

The company has been featured in numerous national publications and television programs including: "Christopher Reeve, A Celebration of Hope;" "CBS Sunday Morning;" and "Good Morning America."

Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 11,000 students each year.
