Prospective students are invited to attend an open house, Saturday, January 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Hudson Valley Community College's new Albany extension site at 175 Central Avenue.
Hudson Valley Community College will begin offering credit and non-credit classes at the extension site in late January. The college hopes to make the extension site a community resource for city residents.
"This is a way to introduce ourselves to city residents," said college President John Buono. "Anyone who wants to learn more about our college can come out and see what we have to offer."
Admissions, continuing education and financial aid counselors will be available to answer questions. Representatives from the college's Workforce Development Institute, which offers non-credit training, also will be on hand. The Central Avenue Business Improvement District is assisting with the event.
There will be giveaways from the college and city businesses, as well as a "winter cookout" during the event. Radio station WJAZ, Jamz 96.3, will be broadcasting live from the 175 Central Avenue site.
Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 50 degree and certification programs in four academic divisions: Liberal Arts and Sciences; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Business; as well as programs run through the Educational Opportunities Center offering certification programs in workforce and academic preparation. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 10,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
