Hudson Valley Community College’s Bulmer Telecommunication Center will be the site of the New York State Poetry Out Loud State Finals on Tuesday, March 4 at 1 p.m. This event will bring together dozens of high school poets from across the state.
Students compete at the local and regional levels, with regional winners participating in the state competition on campus. The New York State champion will then travel to the national finals in Washington, DC.
Poetry Out Loud, an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, is a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance and competition. The program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
