Hudson Valley Community College Hosts Orientation for New Students and their Families

WHO: More than 1,900 new Hudson Valley Community College students, their parents and other family members.
WHAT: The college will host Orientation 2006, series of workshops designed to acclimate students to the campus and give them, and their family members, strategies for academic and collegiate success. The Fall 2006 semester begins Monday, Aug. 28.

Family Day begins at 9 a.m. in the McDonough Sports Complex. For a complete list of activities, visit The college also will announce the winner of a $1,000 tuition award at 12:15 p.m., during lunch at the Student Pavilion, which is located next to Hudson Hall.

The college's Fall 2006 enrollment (headcount, as of Wednesday, Aug. 23) is 8,412 new and returning students, which includes full- and part-time students. To date, new students total 3,135 and returning students total 5,277.

It is important to note that Hudson Valley is an open enrollment institution and enrollment figures for the Fall 2006 semester will not be finalized until the first week in October. In addition, on-campus evening classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 5, and off-campus classes begin Monday, Sept. 11.

Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 60 degree and certificate programs through four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. Last year's enrollment (Fall 2005 headcount) totaled 12,205 full- and part-time students.
