The continuing crisis in Iraq and other countries, the war on terrorism, and the need for security within this country necessitate the following question: is our military sufficient to protect us? Burke has served as the state director of the Selective Service System since 1997; Howe is a veteran of the Vietnam War and a leading historian on the 369th Infantry.

Admission to the lecture, which is part of Hudson Valley\'s \"Voices: A Library Lecture Series\" is free.
