Hudson Valley Upsets Third-Ranked Delhi

Sophomore Laurel Good (Brainard) scored the game winning goal with 6:54 remaining in the second overtime to lift the Hudson Valley Community College (5-1/5-1 Region III) women’s soccer team to a 3-2 win over SUNY Delhi (3-1-1/2-1-1 Region III) today in Troy. Delhi is ranked No. 3 in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll.
Hudson Valley opened the scoring in the first half when sophomore Alyssa Cavosie (Waterford/Shenendehowa High School) took a pass from sophomore Brenna Mereness (Castleton/Maple Hill High School) and punched it into the back of the net in the 13th minute.
Delhi would tie the game four minutes later on a goal by Kaitlyn Tetrault. She took a direct kick from 25 yards away and put it into the top left corner of the net.
Freshman Shannon Goyer (Petersburgh/Berlin High School) gave Hudson Valley a 2-1 lead with a goal six minutes into the second half but Delhi would tie it again on a breakaway goal by Courtney Hoyt with 20:36 remaining in the game.
Freshman goaltender Emily Tironi (Waterford/Waterford-Halfmoon High School) stopped seven shots to preserve the win for Hudson Valley.
