With three of his top four scorers returning, second year head coach Jay Pokines is expecting a big improvement from his Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer team that finished 5-10-1 a year ago.

"I am really excited about this team," said Pokines. "We have a group of good athletes that are really coming together as a team."

Leading the list of returning players is sophomore midfielder Brittany Wilkinson (Watervliet/Watervliet High School), who earned Second Team All-Region recognition last season after finishing the year with six goals and one assist.

Sophomore forward Vanessa Barber (Schoharie/Schoharie High School) had five goals a year ago and should be a major part of the Lady Vikings offense. Sophomore Annemarie Keeler (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) is moving from the midfield to defense this year. She had four goals and two assists as a freshman.

Hudson Valley opens its season at Clinton Community College on Friday, September 1. The Lady Vikings first home game is Sunday, September 3.
