Hudson Valley Community College Athletic Director Drew Marrochello announced today the hiring of Bill Wood of Troy as the women's soccer coach.
Wood has an extensive coaching resume, including stops at Tamarac High School and The College of Saint Rose. Recently, Wood guided the Adirondack Region Women's Open team to a championship at the 2002 Empire State Games. He also has coached the Shenentath Soccer Club since 1997.
"Bill Wood has over 25 years of coaching experience in the Capital Region and we are happy he has chosen to come to Hudson Valley," said Marrochello. "We're confident that he can take our women's soccer program to the next level."
Hudson Valley finished 4-7 in 2002 under head coach Randee McArdle.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to coach at Hudson Valley," said Wood. "I believe we can turn the Hudson Valley women's soccer team into a winning program again."
In the 2001-02 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 65 percent of their contests. The college's softball team traveled to Illinois for the national championship tournament and finished second in the country, and the women's basketball team placed seventh in the nation. Hudson Valley's football team won the Northeast Football Conference, and the baseball and bowling squads each added a Mountain Valley Conference title. Additionally, three Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status and eight were honored with All-American status.
