Bradt's 40 Points Help Lady Vikings Capture Season-Opening Victory

Canandaigua, N.Y., November 2, 2001 – Co-captain and 2000-01 NJCAA Division III Region III Player of the Year Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn H.S.) racked up a career-high 40 points and Hudson Valley Community College's women's basketball team opened up the 2001-02 season with an 86-69 victory over host Finger Lakes Community College. Bradt, who also contributed seven rebounds, three steals and two assists, committed just one turnover during the game.

Hudson Valley, ranked fifth in the nation among Division III junior colleges, held a 46-27 halftime advantage and maintained a lead for the final 35 minutes.

Center Meghan Squires (Hoosic Valley H.S.), whose sister, Christy, played for Hudson Valley's 1992 national championship team, had 10 rebounds and six points. Freshman Carolyn Keeler (Cohoes H.S.), a former All-Colonial Council player, had 13 points.

In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
