The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team (14-8) easily handled Fulton-Montgomery Community College, 67-47, in a Mountain Valley Conference game on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

While Hudson Valley had a lackluster opening five minutes of the contest and trailed 11-8, after a timeout the ladies came out firing and closed the half on a 26-12 run, giving them a 37-23 halftime lead. Alex Brazill (Waterford Halfmoon, Waterford) scored the final eight points of the half for Hudson Valley. Molly McGrouty (Watervliet, Watervliet) and Sarah Carciobolo (Colonie, Colonie) hit big threes during the run both ending the half with eight points apiece.

The second half began much the same as the first ended, as the Lady Vikings expanded their lead to 18 with 16:05 left. With 11:34 left, McGrouty stuck another three-pointer and put an end to a Fulton-Montgomery 6-0 run. Allie Tricomi (Albany, Albany) splashed two free-throws to put Hudson Valley up 60-36 with under five minutes to play. The ladies then cruised to the 67-47 victory.

Carciobolo ended with 14 points, McGrouty with 11 and Brazill with 8. Paige Colfer (Watervliet, Menands) pulled down 14 rebounds.

The Lady Vikings are back at home in a match-up against SUNY Delhi on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1 p.m.
