On the strength of a stellar 2000-01 campaign during which she earned First Team All-Mountain Valley Conference and Second Team All-Region III honors, Kara Sheehan of Waterford was recently named Most Valuable Player of Hudson Valley Community College's women's basketball team.

Sheehan, a sophomore who topped Hudson Valley with 17.4 points per game in 1999-2000, shared the spotlight in 2000-01 with newcomer and NJCAA Division III Region III Player of the Year Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn), helping Hudson Valley post a 24-3 record. Sheehan averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists this past season.

Perhaps more impressive, Sheehan, an Individual Studies major, compiled a 3.69 grade point average, earning Hudson Valley's Otto Guenther Memorial Award, which is presented each year to the individual who demonstrates the best combination of academic and athletic success.

Sheehan, who came to Hudson Valley from Catholic Central High School, will attend Molloy College next academic year. She received a full athletic/academic scholarship.
