Hudson Valley Community College’s women’s basketball team has played more than 750 games since the program’s inception in 1971 but tonight’s 102-61 win over Adirondack Community College was one of the most memorable in the team’s history. It wasn’t necessarily the win, although important for a team fighting for a playoff spot, that made it memorable, but the individual accomplishments of a pair of Lady Vikings.

Sophomore forward Molly McGuire (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) set a school record with 43 points, eclipsing the previous record of 40 points set by Lindsey Bradt on November 2, 2001. McGuire was 14-for-23 from the field and 15-of-20 from the free throw line. McGuire also came away with 16 rebounds and blocked three shots. Her 43 points were just two shy of the NJCAA Division III national record of 45 points set by Gloucester County College’s Chrissy DeMarco in 2000.

Not to be outdone, freshman Jenna Smith (Cohoes/Cohoes High School), had 14 points to go along with a school-record 17 steals. She also had seven rebounds and six assists.

Sophomore Amy Georgia (Perth/Broadalbin-Perth High School) added 15 points and nine rebounds and freshman Jenna Hughes (Poestenkill/Averill Park High School) contributed 15 points and five steals.

Adirondack (3-16) got a team-high 20 points from Kelly Olson (Centenniel, MN).

Hudson Valley (13-12/12-9 Region III) will visit Mohawk Valley Community College on Saturday, February 10.
