Hudson Valley Women’s Basketball Defeats Schenectady

Freshman guard Jenna Hughes (Poestinkill/Averill Park High School) scored 24 points, including 18 in the second half, to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (3-0/2-0 Region III) women’s basketball team to a 78-63 win at Schenectady County Community College (2-2/0-2 Region III).

The two teams, which were meeting each other for the second time in four days, played another tight game after Hudson Valley had won by nine points last Sunday in the championship game of Hudson Valley’s tournament.

Hudson Valley led by just two points, 62-60, with four minutes remaining before going on a 16-3 run to close out the game.

Freshman guard Jackie Carraway (Troy/Lansingburgh High School) added 18 points, seven steals and six assists for Hudson Valley. Sophomore Molly McGuire (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) had 19 points and 12 rebounds and freshman guard Jenna Smith (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) chipped in with 11 points.

Schenectady got 16 points from Lindsey Bergen (Mohonasen High School) and 14 points from Shekinah Belmar (Schenectady High School).


Hudson Valley (78): Molly McGuire 6-7-19, Ryan Graham 2-1-5, Erika Russo 1-0-2, Jenna Smith 4-2-11, Jackie Carraway 7-2-18, Jenna Hughes 7-7-24, Totals: 27-18-78.

Schenectady (63): Shannon Snyde 2-5-9, Nicolie Pallotola 3-0-7, Rachel Lewis 1-0-2, Lindsay Bergen 6-1-16, Raeshelle Fraiser 3-3-9, Shekinah Bellmar 6-2-14, Whitney Perkins 2-2-6, Totals: 23-13-63.
