Point Guards Get It Done For Lady Vikings

Davis and Hampton Lead Hudson Valley To
87-53 Victory Against SUNY Cobleskill

Cobleskill, January 30 – Hudson Valley Community College's women's basketball team used a familiar strategy to down Mountain Valley Conference rival SUNY Cobleskill on the road this evening. Utilizing a fashion they've employed time and time again this season, the Lady Vikings charged out to an early lead that they never relinquished.

En route to 87-53 victory, Hudson Valley seized a 19-2 advantage in the first half and did not allow a Cobleskill field goal for the game's first 14 minutes and 20 seconds.

Hudson Valley, ranked sixth in the nation among National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III teams, improved to 18-1 with the victory. Cobleskill dropped to 6-13.

Point guard Megan Davis (Greenwich) led the Lady Vikings from the opening tipoff. Before heading to the bench for a breather with ten minutes left in the first half, Davis scored seven points and dished out three assists. She also had a pair of steals and an offensive rebound, which she put back for a bucket.

Davis helped the Lady Vikings to a 26-5 start before head coach Colleen Ferris began rotating players off the bench.

Another point guard, Meaghen Hampton (James O'Neill) sported a hot hand for the remainder of the half, propelling Hudson Valley to a 45-18 edge before the buzzer. The 5-foot-4 Hampton scored all nine of her nine points in the final eight minutes of the first half.

On the game, Davis contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn) and Kara Sheehan (Catholic Central) topped the Lady Vikings with 18 points. Bradt added seven rebounds and Sheehan had five assists.

Every player on Hudson Valley's roster scored.
