First-year guard/forward Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn) of Albany was named Female Athlete of the Week in the weekly National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region III athletic report released today. Bradt was honored for efforts against Herkimer Community College on January 8. The five-foot-eight physical education major led Hudson Valley to a 61-39 victory, contributing 16 points and 14 rebounds.

Hudson Valley's men's and women's basketball teams are both at the top of the current NJCAA Region III coach's poll. In addition, the Lady Vikings are ranked first in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams. Under the direction of second-year head coach Colleen Ferris, Hudson Valley's women's team (13-0) is off to its best start since 1992-93 (when Paul Bishop's squad captured the first 18 games of the season) and the second-best start in school history.

Defensively, the women's team is ranked first among NJCAA Region III teams, holding opponents to 47.4 points per game. Offensively, the Lady Vikings are ranked second, scoring 68.9 points per game.

Bradt has the best field goal (54.9) and free throw percentage (85.9) in Region III. She also is third in scoring (18.2 points per contest) and assists per game (2.8). Second-year guard/forward Kara Sheehan (Catholic Central) has the second-best field goal percentage (54.4).

Hudson Valley's men's basketball team (10-3), allowing just 65.7 points per game, has the second-ranked defense among NJCAA Region III teams. In addition to the number one Region III ranking, the Vikings are ranked fifth in the nation among NJCAA Division III teams.
