Lady Vikings Fall to Herkimer

Sophomore guard Courtney Dean (Holland Patent High School) hit a pair of free throws with 19 seconds remaining on the clock to lift the Herkimer County Community College (4-4) women's basketball team to a 52-51 win over Hudson Valley Community College (3-2) earlier tonight in Troy.

The back-and-forth fair included 10 lead changes in the second half. Herkimer led 50-48 with 2:57 remaining in the game before freshman guard Stacey Swan (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa High School) hit a layup 21 seconds later to tie the game at 50-50.

The Lady Vikings went up 51-50 with 2:06 remaining in the game on a free throw by sophomore guard Jocelyn Moy (Greenwich/Greenwich High School), and would hold the lead until Dean's free throws.

Hudson Valley had two good looks underneath the basket in the final seconds but neither shot would fall.

Sophomore forward Elizabeth Ferenczy (Coxsackie/Coxsackie-Athens High School) led Hudson Valley with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Moy had 15 points, nine boards, four assists and three steals. Swan contributed 11 points.

Herkimer was led by freshman forward Beth Cole's (Saint Johnsville High School) 20 points. Dean added 16 points.
