Lady Vikings Fall Short in Region III Semis

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team had its season come to a close earlier today with a 52-43 loss to top-seeded Mohawk Valley Community College (29-1) in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region III Division III tournament in Watertown.

Hudson Valley, the tournament's fourth seed, finished its season with a 19-11 record.

Hudson Valley held a 24-23 lead over the heavily-favored Hawks going into halftime. Mohawk Valley then took the lead for good by scoring the first four points of the second half, but was unable to shake the Lady Vikings until the closing moments.

In a closely played second half, Hudson Valley trailed by four points, 47-43, with 2:13 remaining in the game. However, the Lady Vikings were unable to score the rest of the game and Mohawk Valley made five of its six free throw attempts down the stretch to seal the win.

Freshman guard Jocelyn Moy (Greenwich/Greenwich High School) led Hudson Valley with 21 points and seven steals. She finished the year with 518 points, which are the most points scored by a freshman in school history and the second highest season total in Hudson Valley history.

Sophomore Enoila Bakare (Staten Island/Susan B. Anthony High School) paced Mohawk Valley with 20 points.

Mohawk Valley (52): Natasha Box 1-4-6, LaToya Coley 5-4-19, Charisma Richmond 1-1-3, Nicole Day 1-0-2, Nia Addison 1-0-2, Enoila Bakare 8-4-20, Totals: 18-13-52.
