Sophomore forward Latrice Cowart (Severn, MD/Meade High School) finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (1-0) women's basketball team to a 53-47 win over Cayuga Community College (0-1) earlier today in Troy. Cayuga entered the contest ranked 13th in the preseason National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III poll.

The win avenged a season opening loss to the Spartans a year ago for Hudson Valley.

"It was a great way to start the season," Hudson Valley head coach Colleen Ferris said. "We're a young team this year and to come out and beat a nationally-ranked team to open the season should really help our confidence."

The Lady Vikings also received 11 points and five assists from freshman guard Jocelyn Moy (Greenwich/Greenwich High School), and 10 points and six boards from freshman Megan Baldwin (Glenmont/Bethlehem High School).

Hudson Valley returns to action on Wednesday, November 5 when the Lady Vikings travel to Clinton Community College. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
