Lady Vikings Win Opener

Carolyn Keeler (Cohoes, NY/Cohoes High School) and Angela Von Wergers (Albany, NY/Bishop Gibbons High School) had 12 points and nine rebounds apiece to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (1-0) women's basketball team to a 55-45 win over Finger Lakes Community College earlier tonight in Troy.

Hudson Valley pulled away from the visiting Lakers midway through the second half, extending a 30-27 lead with 14:49 remaining to 53-37 with 1:52 left in the game. Tanya DeLaMater (Troy, NY/Tamarac High School), Casey Brinkman (Troy, NY/Troy High School) and Keeler all hit three-point buckets during the run.

Lindsey Frament (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central) added 10 points for Hudson Valley, who is ranked fourth in the preseason NJCAA Division III poll, while DeLaMater finished with 10 assists and four steals.

Six-foot-three center Ashlee Elliott (Palmyra-Macedon High School) led Finger Lakes (0-1) with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.
