Bradt Named Player Of The Year; Squires Earns All-Star Status

All-American Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn H.S.) has
been named NJCAA Division III Region III Player of the Year for the second
consecutive season. Players from more than 30 two-year schools across the
Northeast were eligible for Player of the Year honors.
Bradt, a 5-foot-8 guard/forward who is currently being
recruited by a host of four-year colleges, has led Hudson Valley Community
College women's basketball team to a 23-4 regular-season record and the No. 2
seed in this weekend's Region III tournament.
Additionally, second-year center Meghan Squires
(Hoosic Valley H.S.) earned Second Team All-Region III status.
Bradt, who holds Hudson Valley's record for points
scored in a career, is averaging 21.3 points per game this season, which places
her third in the nation among Division III junior college players. Bradt also is
contributing 8.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game. She leads Hudson Valley with
87 steals, and she is shooting a team-high 61.1 percent from the field.
Squires, meanwhile, is averaging 12.5 points and 9.2
rebounds per game. She has recorded a team-high 56 blocks to accompany her 45
Hudson Valley, which has posted a 47-7 record during
Squires and Bradt's run, is currently ranked fifth in the country among NJCAA
Division III teams. In the Region III tourney, the Lady Vikings will play No. 7
seed Clinton Community College (12-10) at 8 p.m. on Friday. If the Lady Vikings
win, they will advance to a semifinal game against the winner of a game between
No. 3 Mohawk Valley Community College (24-5) and No. 6 Corning Community College
(17-10). The semifinal contest is slated for 3 p.m. Saturday, and the
championship game will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday. All tourney games are being
played at Mohawk Valley.
