Lady Vikings Run Past Schenectady, 80-32

Troy, N.Y., January 24, 2002 – Hudson Valley
Community College's women's basketball team went on a 21-0 run to begin
tonight's matchup with Schenectady County Community College. The Lady Vikings,
who never trailed, rolled to an 80-32 victory at Troy's McDonough Complex.
Hudson Valley, ranked No. 7 in the nation among Division
III junior colleges, is now 14-3 overall. This is the second time this season
Hudson Valley has topped Schenectady, which is now 5-11.
All-American Lindsey Bradt (Bishop Maginn H.S.) led
all scorers with 26 points. The Hudson Valley guard/forward also contributed
eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. She was 12-for-17 from the field
and 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Hudson Valley's Meghan Squires (Hoosic Valley H.S.)
had 12 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Point guard Megan Davis
(Greenwich H.S.) had 10 points, seven assists and just one turnover. She was
5-for-6 from the field. Angela von Wergers (Bishop Gibbons H.S.), who
sang the national anthem before the game, had seven rebounds.
In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic
teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the
NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series
and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team
earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop
squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings
earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III
performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
