Hudson Valley Vikings Weekly Sports Wrap-Up 9/23-9/29

The Hudson Valley volleyball team suffered a pair of close defeats during the week. The Vikings fell 3-1 to Fulton-Montgomery, ranked eighth in the latest NJCAA Division III national poll, on September 26. Hudson Valley dropped the first two games to the Raiders, 30-23 and 30-27, but rallied to take game three 30-27. Fulton-Montgomery won the match after taking game four, 30-25. The Vikings suffered another tight loss on Sunday, losing 15-12 in the fifth game to Delhi.
Laura Roberts (Petersburgh/Catholic Central) put down 38 kills over the two matches while Erin Fagan (East Greenbush/Columbia) had 25 kills and eight blocks. Setter Courtney Ross (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) dealt out 92 assists during the week.
Upcoming Volleyball Action: Monday, September 30, at Herkimer, 6 p.m.; Friday, October 4-5 at Junior College of Albany Tournament.
In the 2000-01 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 72 percent of their contests. The ice hockey team won the NJCAA championship, the baseball team earned a berth in the NJCAA World Series and the football team won the Region III title. The women's basketball team earned a No. 1 national ranking and turned in a 24-3 record while the men's hoop squad competed in the Region III championship game. Additionally, two Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status, 20 were named All-Region III performers, and 10 were honored with All-American status.
