Hudson Valley Community College Athletics Director Drew Marrochello announced today the hiring of Christina Kelly of Delmar, who will serve as head coach of the college's volleyball team.

Kelly, who was inducted into Hudson Valley's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995, is a 1990 Hudson Valley graduate. She captained the college's volleyball and basketball squads during her two years in Troy, and she was an All-Region III selection as a volleyball player. Kelly also finished her basketball career with 502 points (9.4 per game) and 540 rebounds (10.1 per game).

In addition, in the early 1990s, Kelly served as an assistant coach for Hudson Valley's volleyball and basketball teams.

"Christina Kelly is obviously very familiar with Hudson Valley Community College," Marrochello said. "During her time here as a player and as an assistant coach, she demonstrated that she is a goal-oriented person who also possesses a good amount of flexibility and patience. Those are all qualities that will come in handy as a head coach."

Kelly holds a bachelor's degree in Leisure Studies from SUNY Brockport. Currently, she is employed by Hope House as a therapeutic recreation specialist.

Hudson Valley's volleyball team competes in the Mountain Valley Conference at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III level.

In the 2001-02 academic year, Hudson Valley's athletic teams combined to win 65 percent of their contests. The college's softball team traveled to Illinois for the national championship tournament and finished second in the country, and the women's basketball team placed seventh in the nation. Hudson Valley's football team won the Northeast Football Conference, and the baseball and bowling squads each added a Mountain Valley Conference title. Additionally, three Vikings earned Region III Player-of-the-Year status and eight were honored with All-American status.
