Women’s Tennis Completes Perfect Season & Wins Conference

The Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis team (7-0) defeated Adirondack Community College (2-3) 8-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Vikings took five singles matches and all three doubles matches. Below are the results:


Flight 1: Emily Qua (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant)- W, (6-2, 6-0)

Flight 2: Jenna Brophy (Greenwich/Greenwich)- W, (6-2, 6-0)

Flight 3: Haley Knight (Chatham/Canaan)- W, (6-3, 6-4)

Flight 4: Katie Vogel (Averill Park/Averill Park)- W, (6-2, 6-2)

Flight 5: Sarah Nuss (Averill Park/Wynantskill)- L, (6-1, 4-6, 6-7 [3-7])

Flight 6: Nicole Cassidy (Maple Hill/Castleton)- W, (6-3, 6-1)

With the win, the Vikings won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship, the first since 1998, and finished a perfect 7-0 on the season. In just her second year as head coach, Denise Potenza turned the program around and heads into Regionals with a full head of steam. This past Saturday, Potenza was inducted into the Watervliet High School Hall of Fame for her contributions as a stand out tennis star.

The women head to Regionals on Friday, Oct. 12 at SUNY-Delhi to compete for a regional title, with the top three teams qualifying for the National Tournament held in Flushing, NY, beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
