Softball Falls to Genesee

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (7-11) lost to Genesee Community College (16-14) Sunday afternoon. The Vikings lost game one 10-7 in the eighth inning and lost game two 8-7 in the ninth inning.
In game one, the Vikings gave up a run in the seventh inning allowing the Cougars to tie the game at 6-6. After Genesee scored four in the top of the eighth, Hudson Valley needed to rally for more innings. The Vikings began the inning with a quick run, but unfortunately, they gave up three outs before scoring again.
Paige Roberts (Cobleskill Richmondville/Cobleskill) led Hudson Valley going 3-5 at the plate, including a double, two RBIs, and one run. Elizabeth Brooking (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) went 2-4 at the plate, including a home run, a double, two RBIs in the loss.
The Vikings scored a run in the seventh tying the Cougars 7-7, and pushing the game into extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, Hudson Valley scored taking an 8-7 lead in the ninth. However, Genesee answered in the bottom of the inning with two runs, to defeat the Vikings.
Kaitlin DelSignore (Troy/Brunswick) led Hudson Valley going 5-5 at the plate, including two doubles, two RBIs and three runs. Chelsea Stevens (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls), Kortnee Phillips (Rensselaer/Rensselaer) and Ashley Pulcher (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant) each recorded a RBI in the loss
The women host Mohawk Valley on Tuesday starting at 3 p.m.
