Pitching Dominates as Softball Takes Two from Broome

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (6-4) defeated SUNY Broome Community College (1-7) 5-2 and 11-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Dana Julian (Waterford-Halfmoon/Waterford) allowed only three hits and recorded six strikeouts to earn the win in game one for the Vikings. Shannon Johnson (Averill Park/Wynantskill) led the Vikings with a double and homerun, and Jessica James (Greenwich/Greenwich) added a team-high three hits. Hannah Hoffman (Averill Park/Wynantskill), Brittany Ubrich (Mechanicville/Mechanicville), and Courtney McDonnell (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) each tallied two hits and Shelby Fenton (Catholic Central/Troy) went long for the second time this year in the win.

Just like Julian in game one, Ashley Robinson (Whitesboro/Whitesboro) allowed only three hits to earn the 11-2 victory in five innings in game two. Hannah Mochrie (Colonie/Colonie) hit her fourth and fifth homeruns of the season, recording three hits and three RBIs. McDonnell launched her first of the season, and Hoffman recorded a game-high four RBIs in the win.

The softball team travels to Clinton on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
