The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (8-12) split with Finger Lakes Community College (14-22) on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings took game one in a pitchers duel, 2-1, but fell in game two, 7-3.

Hudson Valley took a 1-1 tie into the bottom of the seventh inning of game one, and Lauren Aitken (Maple Hill/Schodack) delivered a walk-off RBI single to win the game. Maggie Miller (Maple Hill/Schodack) pitched a complete game, striking out five to earn the victory on the mound. Katie Traver (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Sierra Bailey (Hoosick Falls/Hoosick Falls) each recorded two hits in the big win.

The Vikings fell behind early in game two and couldn’t recover. Miller came in relief, pitching five solid innings with six strikeouts to keep the game close but it wasn’t enough. Emily Johnson (Tamarac/Wynantskill) and Sam Mattey (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh) added two hits apiece in the loss.

The softball team finishes the season with an 8-12 overall record.
