Softball 2013 Season Preview

Interim Head Coach Chris Mazzeo begins his first season in 2013 with the Hudson Valley softball team. Failing to make the postseason in 2012, the Vikings will see some new faces in the lineup this season.

Incoming pitchers Maggie Miller (Maple Hill/Schodack) and Gina Torres (Albany/Albany) will be welcome additions, along with returning pitcher Shayla Morris (Berlin/ Berlin), who finished last season with an 8-7 record. Both Miller and Torres will bring different styles to the rotation and will relieve some of the burden from Morris.

First-year players Sierra Bailey (Hoosick Falls /Hoosick Falls), Emily Johnson (Tamarac/Wynantskill), Maggie Miller (Maple Hill/Schodack) and Alyssa Hand (Columbia/East Greenbush) look to solidify the infield along with returning utility infielder Sam Mattey (Lansingburg/Lansingburg). Lauren Aitken (Maple Hill/Schodack) and Katie Traver (Shenendahowa/Clifton Park) will provide additional depth to the infield.

The team returns two speedy outfielders, Meghan Roullier (Columbia/Wynantskill) and Missy Post (Saratoga/Saratoga), who should be two of the better defensive fielders in the league. In addition to them, Janel Weaver (Schenectady/Schenectady) will see time in the outfield.
