Softball 2011 Season Preview
Head Coach Meghan Farrelly is excited to have two solid pitchers this season. Kate Cahrenger (Waterford-Halfmoon/Waterford) and Cherish Kilventon (Cohoes/Cohoes) are both incoming freshman who worked hard in the off-season to get into shape and develop their pitches. Each will be heavily relied upon to carry the load for the Vikings this season. The team looks for leadership to second-year starters Molly McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh), Danielle Greene (Heatly/Green Island) and Lori Pelersi (Bethlehem/Albany). McDonough led the team in just about every offensive and defensive category last year. Stephanie Frederick (Greenville/Greenville) makes the transition from the basketball court to the softball field, and will be a key bat in the line-up.
Freshman Meghan Matan (Shaker/Latham) solidifies the infield, filling the need at third base where there was a huge hole for the Vikings last year. Kate Brown (Colonie/Colonie) will be a nice addition to the outfield position, providing speed and a quick bat to really pack the top of the line-up. SUNY IT transfer Natalie Triano (Colonie/Colonie) will make the ordeal of losing last year's homerun leader, Megan Bailey, easier. Triano finished second in the nation in batting average with a .546 last year. She was named First-Team All-Conference and also set SUNY IT's program record for hits in a season.
