The Hudson Valley Community College softball team (2-2) opened up Region III play with authority, defeating SUNY Delhi, 9-1 and 9-0, in a doubleheader clash.

In game one, the Lady Vikings' bats were on fire as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the third inning. Stephanie Frederick (Greenville, Greenville) had a huge game with five RBIs on a three-run homerun and a two-run double that helped blow the game open. Molly McDonough (Lansingburgh, Lansingburgh) had a nice two-for-two day with an RBI and two runs scored and Mellissa Boyd (Colonie, Schenectady) went two-for-three on the way to the 9-1 victory.

Game two was much of the same as the Lady Viking offense exploded for another nine runs and shutout the Lady Broncos. Pitcher, Christina Dunton (Chatham, Chatham), threw her first collegiate shutout, giving up three hits and striking out two. Offensively, Hudson Valley sprayed its hits throughout the lineup as Dunton helped her own cause with a double and two runs scored, Megan Mulholland (Lansingburgh, Lansingburgh) went one-for-two with a sacrifice fly, and Becca Murphy (Averill Park, Wynantskill) was one-for-one with an RBI and a walk in the 9-0 win.
