Colonie's Angela Jackson Earns Softball Team's MVP Award

Angela Jackson of Colonie was recently named
Most Valuable Player of Hudson Valley Community College's 2001 softball
team. The sophomore pitcher, who led the Lady Vikings to a 22-9 record,
also earned First Team All-Mountain Valley Conference and First Team All-NJCAA
Division III Region III status.
As Hudson Valley's primary starter, Jackson
compiled a 15-2 record this past season, and tossed a no hitter and a pair
of one hitters. She was 28-12 in her two-year Hudson Valley career.
Jackson posted a 2.27 ERA with 101 strikeouts
in 123 innings pitched in 2001. She issued just five walks. In two seasons
as a Lady Viking, she struck out 194 batters and walked just 23. This year,
Jackson hit .342 with 19 RBI and three doubles.
Jackson, who came to Hudson Valley from Colonie
High School, will attend Cortland State next.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy,
offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions;
Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and
Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University
of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 9,000
students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives
and worker retraining.
