Hudson Valley’s Tracy Chesebrough Named Player of the Year

After a record breaking season for Hudson Valley Community College’s softball team, sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) was named the NJCAA Region III Player of the Year and the Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year. In addition, four other Vikings, including head coach Jeff Beyer, were recognized.
Chesebrough led all NJCAA Division III pitchers with a 0.72 earned run average and 380 strikeouts in 193.2 innings of work. She posted a 25-8 record and finished her two-year career with 47 wins and 678 strikeouts. She tossed five no-hitters and struck out 20 batters in a game twice in 2007.
Beyer, who recently completed his fifth season, was named the region and conference Coach of the Year. He guided the Lady Vikings to a 30-15 record this season. His teams are 149-61 over the five years.
Sophomore outfielder Sarah Spellman (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) and sophomore third baseman Kayle Countermine (Rotterdam/Schalmont High School) each earned First Team All-Region and All-Conference recognition. Spellman hit .373 with seven doubles, two home runs and 24 RBI in 26 games. Countermine hit .412 with five home runs and 33 RBI.
Freshman second baseman Brittany Grossman (Greenport/Hudson High School) was an All-Mountain Valley Conference selection after leading the team with a .450 batting average, 44 RBI and 24 stolen bases.
