Chesebrough Sets National Strikeout Record in Split with MVCC

The Hudson Valley Community College (26-13/25-3 Region III) softball team split a doubleheader with Mohawk Valley Community College (18-6/17-3 Region III) today in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 4-1, and lost the nightcap, 5-1.

Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) allowed just one unearned run and three hits over seven innings to lead Hudson Valley in the opener. She struck out 14 and walked none.

Sophomore Ashley Hoffman (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) and freshman Christine Martin (Corinth/Corinth High School) were each two-for-three at the plate for the Lady Vikings in the opener.

Sophomore Kayle Countermine (Rotterdam/Schalmont High School) hit a solo home run to lead off the second game for Hudson Valley, but it was the only offense the Lady Vikings would get.

Chesebrough struck out five batters over the first 4.1 innings. In the process, she set the NJCAA Division III strikeout record with 320 strikeouts. She also holds the career record with 618 strikeouts.
