Hudson Valley Softball Sweeps Clinton

The Hudson Valley Community College (23-12/22-2 Region III) softball team swept a pair of five-inning games from Clinton Community College (2-14) on Tuesday in Troy. Hudson Valley won the opener, 9-1, and the nightcap, 13-0.

Freshman second baseman Brittany Grossman (Greenport/Hudson High School) was two-for-three with a double, triple and four RBI to lead Hudson Valley’s offensive attack in the opener. Sophomore Ashley Hoffman (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) was two-for-three with two doubles and an RBI.

Freshman pitcher Shana Flood (Glenmont/Bethlehem High School) picked up the win in the opener. She allowed one run on four hits over five innings. She struck out three and walked two.

Freshman Kim Poetzsch (Ravena/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) was three-for-three with three RBI to pace the Vikings offense in the second game. Grossman was two-for-four with a triple and two RBI.

Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) worked five innings to get the win. She allowed just one hit and struck out 12.
