Hudson Valley Softball Sweeps No. 4 Alfred State

The Hudson Valley Community College (21-10/20-0 Region III) softball team, ranked No. 10 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, ran its win streak to 20 games with a doubleheader sweep of fourth-ranked Alfred State College (15-6/10-3) today in Alfred. Hudson Valley took the opener, 32-, and the nightcap, 9-2.

With the teams tied at 1-1 entering the sixth inning, Hudson Valley used a two-out rally to take a 3-1 lead. Freshman Kailynn Bateman reached on an error and then stole second. Freshman Brittany Grossman hit a single to centerfield to score Bateman. Grossman stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. She score the eventual game winner when Kayle Countermine walked and drew a throw to second base.

Grossman finished the game three-for-four with a double. Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough went the distance in the circle. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits. She struck out 12 and walked none.

Countermine hit a three-run double to the centerfield fence to spark a four run fifth inning for Hudson Valley in the nightcap. Sophomore Talia Valenti had a hit, scored two runs and drove in a run.
