Chesebrough’s Record-Setting Performance Leads Hudson Valley Past TC3

Sophomore pitcher Tracy Chesebrough (Duanesburg/Duanesburg High School) allowed just one hit to lead the Hudson Valley Community College (11-10/10-0 Region III) to a 1-0 win over Tompkins Cortland Community College (4-9/1-2 Region III) in the opening game of a doubleheader played Saturday in Dryden. Hudson Valley also took the second game, 5-2, to record its 10th consecutive win.

Chesebrough struck out a school record 18 batters and walked none in the opener. She also allowed just four hits and two unearned runs in the second game to pick up the win and improve her record to 11-4 on the season.

Hudson Valley managed just two hits of its own in the opener. The Lady Vikings took the lead in seventh inning after sophomore Sarah Spellman (Delmar/Bethlehem High School) singled to lead off the inning. She came around to score with two outs in the inning when freshman Shana Flood (Glemont/Bethlehem High School) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Hudson Valley was able to overcome six errors in the second game win.

Sophomore Kayle Countermine (Rotterdam/Schalmont High School) was three-for-four with a double, triple and RBI to lead the Lady Vikings offensive attack. Freshman Brittany Grossman (Greenport/Hudson High School) was two-for-four with a triple and two RBI.
