Hudson Valley Softball Splits to Remain Alive in Region III Tournament

Third-seeded Hudson Valley Community College dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 2 Corning Community College in the opening game of the NJCAA Region III Division III Softball Tournament played in Corning. The Lady Vikings rebounded to defeat No. 5 Broome Community College, 3-1, to remain alive in the four-team double elimination tournament.

Hudson Valley (24-9-1) will play top seeded Monroe Community College at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8. The lady Vikings need to win three games tomorrow to win the tournament.

Corning scored three unearned runs in the first inning off two Hudson Valley errors and held on for the win.

Freshman Keri Walsh (Bethlehem/Bethlehem High School) had two hits for Hudson Valley in the opener.

Sophomore Lauren Krogh (Troy/Troy High School) hit a two-run double to spark a three-run sixth inning for Hudson Valley in the nightcap. Sophomore Meg McLoughlin (Troy/Troy High School) added an RBI single.

Sophomore Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) added two hits, and got the win on the mound. She pitched a complete-game two hitter, striking out three and walking two.
