Hudson Valley Softball Opens Region III Tournament with Win

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Mohawk Valley Community College, 13-0, in the opening round of the NJCAA Region III Division III Tournament played today in Troy.

The third seeded Lady Vikings improve their record to 23-8-1 and will meet the winner of today's game between No. 2 Corning Community College and No. 7 Tompkins-Cortland Community College in the semifinals of the four-team double-elimination tournament on Friday, May 7 in Corning.

Freshman Annemarie Nelson (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) had two doubles and two RBI to lead the Lady Vikings' offensive attack.

Sophomore pitcher Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) had two hits and two RBI at the plate and only allowed three hits in seven inning of work on the mound to move her record to 12-5 on the year. She struck out four and walked three.

Also coming away with two hits and two RBI for Hudson Valley was freshman Reality Price (East Greenbush/Columbia High School).

Mohawk Valley finishes its season with a 19-14 record.
