Hudson Valley Softball Sweeps Holyoke

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team swept a pair of one-run games from Holyoke Community College earlier today in Troy. The Lady Vikings won the opener, 5-4 in eight innings, and the nightcap, 2-1.

Hudson Valley, ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA Division III preseason poll, improves its record to 5-5-1. Holyoke is ranked 10th in the preseason poll.

Freshman Annemarie Nelson (East Greenbush/Columbia High School) singled to drive in the winning run for Hudson Valley in the eighth inning of the opening game.

Sophomore Meg McLoughlin (Troy/Troy High School) was two-for-three with an RBI double. Sophomore Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) and freshman Mindy McDonough (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) each contributed two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Samantha Zotto (Troy/Troy High School) pitched eight innings, allowing four runs on six hits, to pick up her third win of the season.

Goodspeed pitched seven innings, allowing only one run on two hits, to pick up the win for Hudson Valley in the second game. She struck out eight.

Freshman Meagan Wilson (Rensselaer/Rensselaer High School) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
