Hudson Valley Softball Downs Adirondack 6-4

The Hudson Valley Community College (28-6) softball team opened defense of its 2002 NJCAA Region III title with a 6-4 win over Adirondack Community College (19-6) in the opening round of the Region III tournament earlier today in Troy.

Hudson Valley, the tournament's third seed, will face No. 2 Corning Community College in the semifinals on Friday. Corning advanced by defeating SUNY Alfred, 3-0, earlier today.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Hudson Valley freshman Rebecca Frederick (East Nassau/New Lebanon High School) hit a two-out home run to left field to give the Lady Vikings a 5- 4 advantage.

Freshman Lauren Krogh (Troy/Troy High School) was two-for-three with a double and two RBI to lead Hudson Valley. She also scored three runs.

Sophomore pitcher Kim Prior (Coeymans/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk High School) ran her record to 9-2 on the season after relieving starter Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) in the sixth inning. Prior didn't allow a base runner over the final two innings.
