The Hudson Valley Community College (9-4) softball team swept Schenectady County Community College in a doubleheader on Tuesday. Hudson Valley won the opener 10-2 and the nightcap 8-0. It was the first game played at Hudson Valley's new softball field, which was built in conjunction with Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.

Freshman hurler Stephanie Goodspeed (Lansingburgh/Lansingburgh High School) allowed two runs on three hits to pick up the win in the opener. She struck out a season-high 10 batters. Freshman Danielle Duggan (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) and sophomore Kimberly Welcome (Cohoes/Cohoes High School) had two hits apiece to lead the Hudson Valley offense.

Sophomore Jill Fox (Loudonville/Bishop Maginn High School) hit a triple and drove in three runs to pace the Lady Vikings in the second game. Sophomore Casey Brinkman (Troy/Troy High School) also tripled.

"It was a sentimental game for me," said Hudson Valley head coach Jeff Beyer, who was the coach at Schenectady from 2000 to 2002. "We played well as a team today."
