The Hudson Valley Community College softball team is ranked sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III preseason poll that was released earlier today.

"It's nice to be recognized as one of the top junior college programs in the country, but it doesn't guarantee us wins," said first-year head coach Jeff Beyer. "We have to go out and prove ourselves on the field."

Hudson Valley has six games on its schedule against teams ranked in the preseason poll. The Lady Vikings have a doubleheader against second-ranked College of DuPage on March 25 in Orlando, Florida. Hudson Valley also has doubleheaders against #4 Broome Community College on April 27, and against #9 Monroe Community College on May 4.

After dropping the first four games of the season, the Lady Vikings compiled a 36-9 record a year ago and finished second at the NJCAA national Championships in Joliet, Illinois.

Hudson Valley opens it season on Sunday, March 23 against Shoreline Community college (WA) in Orlando, Florida. The Lady Vikings first home game is scheduled for Saturday, April 5 against Dean College.
