Lady Vikings Rained Out At National Championship

A day of steady rain cancelled all the games scheduled
for Thursday at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III softball championship tournament in Joliet, Illinois. Hudson Valley Community College's softball squad, ranked fifth in the nation among Division III junior colleges, had two games cancelled.
The Lady Vikings (32-7 overall) will now play three
games on Friday. They will play Montana's Dawson
Community College at 9 a.m. Dawson, which competes
primarily against Division II schools during the
regular season, is 16-19 overall. Hudson Valley will
then play again at 1 p.m., in either a winner or
loser's bracket. Finally, the Lady Vikings will play
at either 5 or 7 p.m., depending on how they fare in
Friday's earlier games. The 5 p.m. contest will be the
second round of the loser's bracket; the 7 p.m. game
will be a championship semifinal.
The Division III tourney is an eight-team event, and
the tournament's championship game is slated for 2
p.m. on Saturday.
Christyn Hamel (Averill Park H.S.) leads Hudson
Valley, which is making its debut appearance in the
national championship tourney, She is batting .450
with three home runs and she is 13-2 on the mound.
